Ho-Yin Ng became a director of AL_A in 2009, having joined the office in 2006 to lead the recently completed Hills Place project. He currently heads the team working on a large mixed-use development for Londonewcastle in Shoreditch. Both projects demonstrate the office’s skills in resolving complex planning and construction issues and Ng’s provocative approach to moving the conceptual design debate forward. This is also evidenced in the Naples Subway Station, run by NG and developed in collaboration with Anish Kapoor, where the tension between form and function is resolved through the design.
Ng is passionate about incorporating emerging technologies which extend efficiency and enhance the design process within the office. Current research work uses sophisticated parametric 3D models developed in the office and integrated by Ng into the design methodology of AL_A.
A graduate of the Architectural Association Ng received his first honours degree from the School of Architecture Newcastle. He is a proponent of extreme sports and a regular competitor in triathlon events. This discipline and focus are echoed in his rigorous intellectual approach to projects.
